When you watch programs on Television like BBC Watchdog and House of Horrors you wonder if you had a problem how could you avoid these rouges.
One way is to contact your Mortgage holder or any other Building Society . It is in the interest of your Mortgage Lender to ensure work done on your house is done well. If poor work is done it could effect their investment.
Most Building Societies have a Find a tradesmen service. You can go into your local Branch, phone them and these days visit their Website. On most of them you enter your full Postcode and select the type of tradesman e.g. Plumber. A list will be displayed of the ones in your area. It will also inform your that they have a good legal History, Good credit History, and score Quality, Courtesy, Timeliness and Value for Money.
All you do now is to invite three of them to give a quote, and choose one. The work can be insured for a price and a loan taken if required. The last two Tradesmen we had was a roofer to replace guttering, and a plumber who replaced our toilet
The Building Society I have used on these last two occassions was Britannia Building Society. You probably will get the same service from your building society
